AI Agent

An AI that takes actions in the world, not just generates text.

Also known as: agent,AI agents

An AI agent is an AI that takes actions, not just generates text. A chatbot writes back. An agent does things — sends an email, books a meeting, edits a file, fills a form, drafts a pull request. Agents have tools (what they can do), goals (what they are trying to achieve), and the ability to plan multi-step actions. By 2026, three flavours dominate: no-code agents for non-developers (Lindy, Tana), autonomous engineering agents (Devin, Claude Code, Cline), and browser-driving libraries (Browser Use, Manus). Current agents work reliably for narrow tasks (email triage, well-scoped tickets) but still fail at open-ended, multi-day, or genuinely novel work — that is the central limitation of 2026.
