Who we are

"There Is An AI Tool" (the "Site") is operated by the team at thereisanaitool.com. We're a content site reviewing AI tools and publishing plain-English explainers. We're the data controller for the data described below. You can reach us at privacy@thereisanaitool.com.

What data we collect

1. Information you give us

• Email address — if you sign up for our newsletter via the form on the home page or footer. We use this only to send you the newsletter.
• Text you submit to our free tools — the AI Humanizer, AI Text Detector, and Prompt Improver send the text you paste to a third-party AI provider (currently Google Gemini and Groq). We do not store this text. The AI provider may temporarily process it; see their policies linked below.

2. Information we collect automatically

• Standard server logs — IP address, user agent, page requested, timestamp. Used for security and abuse prevention. Held for 30 days.
• Cloudflare analytics — our hosting provider collects aggregated, privacy-preserving traffic data (no cookies, no personal identifiers).
• Google Analytics — only if you accept the cookie banner. If you decline, no analytics cookies are set and no events are sent. We use Google Consent Mode v2 with analytics defaulting to "denied".

3. Cookies

We use the smallest set of cookies that's practical:

• Strictly necessary — none beyond what your browser sets for the connection.
• Analytics (optional) — Google Analytics cookies (`_ga`, `_ga_*`) set only after you click "Accept" on the cookie banner.
• Functional — a small `localStorage` entry remembering your cookie-consent choice so we don't ask again.
• Advertising — none. We don't run ads.

How we use your data

• Sending the newsletter you signed up for (if applicable).
• Responding when you contact us by email.
• Understanding how visitors use the site (aggregate, anonymous) — only if you accept analytics.
• Detecting abuse and protecting the site from spam, scraping, and attacks.
• Improving our content and tools — based on aggregated, non-personal patterns.

Service providers we use

To operate the site we rely on a small number of trusted service providers. We list them here by function rather than by brand — brands change over time, the categories don't. Each provider receives only the data needed to do its job and is bound by a data-processing agreement.

• Hosting and content delivery — to serve the site. Receives your IP address and basic request data (page, browser type) as standard server logs. Held for 30 days.
• Web analytics (only if you consent) — measures aggregate traffic patterns. Cookies are set only after you accept the cookie banner. Decline and nothing is recorded.
• Web typography — to load the fonts you see on the page. Sends your IP to the font provider when the page loads. No cookies.
• AI inference providers — powers the four free in-house tools (Humanizer, Detector, Prompt Improver, Cost Calculator). Text you submit to a tool is sent to the AI provider that generates the response. We don't store it; the provider may briefly process it to fulfil the request.
• Tool logo CDN — loads the small logo images you see on the AI tools directory. Sends your IP to the logo CDN when the image loads.
• Email and newsletter delivery — if you sign up for the newsletter, your email is stored with our email service provider for the purpose of sending you that newsletter. Used for nothing else.

Some providers process data in the United States or other countries. They use standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards for transfers from the UK / EU.

We do not use ad networks, retargeting pixels, or social-media tracking pixels (no Meta Pixel, no TikTok pixel, no LinkedIn Insight Tag). We do not sell or share data with marketing partners.

What we don't do

• We don't sell your data. To anyone. Ever.
• We don't share your data with advertisers.
• We don't store text you submit to our free tools.
• We don't track you across other websites.
• We don't run third-party advertising or tracking pixels (Meta, TikTok, LinkedIn).

Your rights (GDPR / UK GDPR / CCPA)

You have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you.
• Rectification — ask us to fix anything inaccurate.
• Erasure — ask us to delete your data ("right to be forgotten").
• Restriction — ask us to pause processing.
• Portability — get a machine-readable copy of your data.
• Objection — opt out of certain processing.
• Withdraw consent — for anything we process based on consent.

Email privacy@thereisanaitool.com with your request. We respond within 30 days.

Data retention

• Newsletter emails: until you unsubscribe (then deleted from active lists within 30 days).
• Server logs: 30 days.
• Analytics data: aggregated; retained per Google Analytics' default (14 months) if you opted in.
• Tool submissions: not stored.

Children

The Site is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 in the EU). We don't knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided data, email us and we'll delete it.

International transfers

Some of our providers (Cloudflare, Google, Groq) process data in countries including the United States. They use standard contractual clauses or equivalent safeguards for transfers from the EU/UK.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site evolves. The "Last updated" date at the top tells you when. Material changes will be highlighted in the newsletter if you're subscribed.
