Stable Diffusion is the open-source AI image generation model from Stability AI. Unlike Midjourney or DALL-E, the model weights are publicly downloadable — you can run Stable Diffusion entirely on your own hardware, fine-tune it on your own images, and build it into your own products without paying per generation. It has spawned a massive ecosystem of community models, training tools (LoRA, Dreambooth), and front-end apps (Automatic1111, ComfyUI, Forge). Trade-off: output quality has been overtaken by Flux Pro and Midjourney for general use, but Stable Diffusion still wins on customisation and ownership.
